The Aftermath of Joy (2026)

This piece is inspired by the aftermath of Mardi Gras: beads caught in unexpected places after the celebration ends. The strands hang from tree branches, fences, and wherever they land; messy but beautiful, their glitter offers a quiet reminder that something joyful has just happened.

Warp yarns were hand-painted with acid dyes and woven in plain weave on a 2-harness loom. An improvised, undulating design was created using the clasped weft technique. Coiled art yarns, carded and spun from the artist’s own dyed fibers, were inserted by hand throughout, echoing Mardi Gras beads. The cloth was then cut and sewn into an oversized, bias-cut pullover with dramatic sleeves.
