Sample Book Shrug (2023)

Sample Book Shrug was woven entirely from reclaimed yarn samples sourced from FABSCRAP in New York City. Originally part of a commercial yarn sample book, the small lengths of yarn were intended to display individual colors, fibers, and textures before being discarded.

Rather than trying to create uniformity from these mismatched materials, I used the limitations of the samples as part of the design, allowing changes in color, texture, and yarn quality to remain visible throughout the fabric. The discarded samples were transformed from fragments of the textile industry back into cloth, and ultimately into a wearable garment.
